[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Sitges Town Council, as the town\u2019s principal representative, has made a commitment to promote a tourism model based on environmental, cultural and socioeconomic sustainability, bearing in mind that both its residents, and a large number of visitors and tourists live and coexist in Sitges.<\/strong><\/p>\n

To this end, in collaboration with the private sector and with the main agents involved in the destination\u2019s tourism management, in 2016 it obtained the Biosphere Destination certification<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sitges continues its dedicated commitment to quality, environmental sustainability and social responsibility as a tourist destination, fundamental points for the international standard evaluated to grant the \u2018Biosphere Destination\u2019 certificate.<\/p>\n

In 2019, Sitges renewed this certification achieved in 2016.<\/span> <\/strong>The implementation of the 2017-2022 Tourism Quality Plan and the current coastal and beach management system were the strong points of the audit.<\/p>\n

Biosphere Destination<\/a><\/strong> is a private, independent certification acknowledged worldwide by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) and promoted by the Responsible Tourism Instituto (RTI), an independent organism connected to UNESCO and a member affiliated with the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), which promotes a tourism put into practice via sustainable activities within the sphere of triple profitability: environmental, cultural and socioeconomic.[\/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”15745″ img_size=”full” style=”vc_box_rounded”][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”17101″ img_size=”full” style=”vc_box_rounded”][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]In addition, in December 2017 the Garraf, Ol\u00e8rdola and Foix parks received the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism Certification (CETS)<\/span><\/strong> managed by the Europarc Federation<\/a>. The event took place at the European Parliament in Brussels and during the session, this certification was granted to a total of 21 parks in all of Europe committed to sustainable tourism in their protected areas.<\/p>\n

The Charter\u2019s area of implementation also includes other protected areas like Colls & Miralpeix, the Garraf Coast and the Baix Llobregat \u2013 Garraf Maritime Area.<\/p>\n

The Garraf, Ol\u00e8rdola and Foix parks, along with the rest of the well-known parks, are successful examples of the benefits that sustainable tourism strategies offer both nature and people. Receiving the CETS guarantees a use of the park for tourism that\u2019s compatible with the territory\u2019s conservation, minimizing the negative impacts and contributing to local economic development.<\/span><\/p>\n
