That time has arrived now, we’re coming to the end of 2023 and here in Sitges we’re finishing the year in full swing, and we’ll continue the same way in 2024, when we’ll be celebrating our 20th anniversary. As George Bernard Shaw said, “don’t wait for the right opportunity, create it” and that’s exactly what we’ve been doing and what we plan to continue doing this new year.

Between November and December we’ve attended 3 national workshops, the work sessions organized by the Spain Convention Bureau and the IBTM, where we were able to meet with nearly 90 international organizers, apart from being able to greet all the national participants in the annual fair that is most eagerly awaited by the entire sector.

We also wanted to share our traditions and personally wish a happy holiday season to all the professionals who have accompanied us, which is why we went to Madrid to organize the “EMA Christmas Party” and welcomed 79 eventprofs and 1 inspection visit from a North American association for a possible congress in Sitges, before and after the IBTM.

On November 23rd, in collaboration with the Catalunya Convention Bureau, we organized the “EMA Christmas Party” in Madrid, which was attended by 37 event managers. The day included a presentation of the destination, and we introduced them to some of the local traditions: the “tió” and the “caganers”, the most emblematic traditional Christmas elements in Catalonia. The attendees were able to reproduce the tradition, and hitting the tió (a trunk with a Catalan “barretina” hat, previously “fed”) with a cane and to the rhythm of the traditional song, they asked him to “poop out” gifts, which appeared in the form of different elements and traditional sweets.

As part of the IBTM, this past November 26th and 27th, we welcomed, together with the Barcelona Convention Bureau, a Fam Trip organized by the Spanish Tourist Office in Germany and in collaboration with the Catalunya Convention Bureau. The 10 German professionals from the MICE sector were previously in Barcelona and later were able to experience the destination in person along with the Sitges CB and its associate members. They stayed at ME Sitges Terramar and enjoyed event venues including Eurostars Sitges, Hotel Calipolis, Palau Maricel, Paó de Sitges, Hotel Sunway, Finca Mas Solers, Hotel Sabàtic Sitges, MiM Sitges, Meliá Sitges, La Taberna del Puerto, CIM – Sitges Malvasia Interpretation Center and took a guided tour led by Agisitges. Also, and coinciding with the Tapa-Tapa route in Sitges, they were able to sample various culinary treats at different establishments.

Also as part of the IBTM, and organized by Eurostars Sitges, on December 1st and 2nd we welcomed 17 professional event organizers of different nationalities to the destination. The attendees were able to enjoy Sitges through a gymkhana organized  Fun-Acció Sitges, where they discovered its most emblematic spots in a fun way. They also sampled tapas from different establishments participating in the Tapa-Tapa Sitges gastronomic route. They ended their stay at the CIM- Sitges Malvasia Interpretation Center, where they were able to taste the local wine and learn a little more about the history of Sitges.

On December 2nd we welcomed 49 MICE professionals from Barcelona, 2 from the USA and 1 from the UK, who were able to discover the destination thanks to Hotel Calipolis, Fun-Acció Sitges, Grup Matas-Arnalot and Sea You Chillout. We started with a Cala Morisca vermouth workshop at Hotel Calipolis, followed by brunch at the new Grup Matas Arnalot restaurant, Sofia by Pícnic and then a gymkhana organized by Fun-Acció Sitges, to discover the destination. We finished the day at Sea You Chillout in the Aiguadolç Marina, enjoying cocktails in the evening.
